Kerry Sluchinski, PhD (2021) in Applied Linguistics – Discourse Analysis, University of Alberta (U of A) and former SSHRC funding recipient (Grant Number: 752-2021-2541), is an East Asian Linguistics Researcher and Computer Mediated Discourse Analyst. Kerry’s milestone monograph, Inclusivity and Belonging in Chinese Discourse, was published with Routledge in 2024.
Kerry formerly served as Assistant Lecturer of Chinese Language & Linguistics at the University of Alberta, teaching Beginner to Intermediate/Lower-Advanced levels of Chinese language and introductory (socio)linguistics courses.
Kerry is also an Associate Translator in Chinese-English (2016) as a member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA), Language Editor for Asian Languages and Linguistics 《亚洲语言与语言学》and was formerly a core Organizing Committee Member of the Language, Communication, and Culture Graduate Student Network, a Faculty of Arts Signature Area (U of A).
At the undergraduate level, Kerry majored in the study of Chinese and Japanese at the University of Alberta with a heavy focus on linguistics and translation. At the Master’s level, Kerry majored in Chinese Linguistics and Pedagogy. In addition to her MA, she holds a BA with distinction in Chinese-Japanese studies and two certificates in Translation Studies, one in Chinese and one in Japanese.
She has also studied at the Harbin Institute of Technology, China. Kerry’s general body of research focuses on the (de/re/co-) construction of identity and the use of referential forms on the Internet in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. Her SSHRC funded dissertation research focuses on the use of Chinese non-standard third person pronoun ta in Anti and Pro LGBTQ+ discourses on the Internet and how ta is used to navigate degrees of (non-)belonging. She is also actively involved in the publishing sector having provided proofreading and editing service for various texts in various fields.

2016年起，任加拿大阿尔伯塔省翻译与口译者协会（ATIA）中译英翻译。此外，从事《亚洲语言与语言学》期刊语言编辑工作，曾经当过阿尔伯塔大学语言-交际-文化 研究生会核心筹委会职务。
本科期间，于阿尔伯塔大学攻读中文和日语双专业，专攻语言学与翻译学。具有汉语语言学和第二外语教学硕士学位 (2017年毕业于阿尔伯塔大学)。此外，具有中日研究学士学位及两份翻译学证书（中译英及日译英）。曾于中国哈尔滨工业大学短期留学。研究方向主要集中于汉语、韩语和日语领域，主要研究侧重于如何使用语言以 (解、重、共、构) 建各种身份及第三人称的指示物在互联网上的使用。其博士论文研究获得加拿大国家社科基金资助，以在互联网上的支持和反对LGBTQ 群体的话语为重点，重点分析用户是怎样使用 ta（中国非标准第三人称代词）来体现其（非）归属感的程度。

Kerry의 일반 연구 영역은 중국어, 한국어 및 일본어로 된 인터넷에서 정체성의 해체/재현/공동 구성과 참조 양식 사용에 중점을 둡니다. 박사논문 테마는 중국어 인터넷 커뮤니티의 LGBTQ+에 관한 담론적 선택을 주제로, ta 그리고 다른 제 3자의 참조 형태를 분석하는 것입니다. 목표는 사용자가 어떻게 ta (그리고 다른 제 3자의 참조 형태)를 통해서 “spaces of (non-)belonging” 을 만들고，정체성 (“Other” 포함)을 형성하는지를 분석하는 것입니다.

学部時代にはアルバータ大学にて言語学および翻訳を中心に中国語と日本語を学ぶ。修士課程では中国語の言語学と教授法を専攻。修士号に加え、中国語と日本語の翻訳学の資格をそれぞれ優秀な成績で取得。また、中国のHarbin Institute of Technologyにて留学。
研究の中心テーマは中国語、韓国語、日本語のインターネットにおけるアイデンティティーの(de/re/co-)構造、および指示形(referential form)の研究。SSHRC基金のもと発表した博士論文では、ネット上での、LGBTQ+反対・賛同者による 談話中の中国語三人称代名詞「ta」について研究。特に、インターネット上でtaが宛先や話者の所属意識の度合いをどのように示すのかについて研究。また、校正・編集を行うグループの中心メンバーとして、様々な場で活躍。
